Chateau Magdeleine Bouhou
Blaye - Cotes de Bordeaux
Chateau Magdeleine Bouhou
The first traces of this estate date back to the 18th century (“Domaine Bouhou”). The name Bouhou - inspired by the local word for ‘blow’ - is an homage to the strong wind generated by the Gironde Estuary. In the 19th century, the estate became the property of two Bordeaux wine merchants, the wife of one and the daughter of the other named ‘Madeleine’. The name became a link between the two families.
In 1908, Jean Chaumet bought the property with his savings. His son Roger, in 1930, he decided to sell the mythic 1929 vintage by bottle. In 1954, Roger’s daughter Mireille married the winemaker Guy Rousseau. Dynamic and enterprising, Guy did a lot of work to develop the property.
His daughter, Muriel Rousseau-Revaire, took over in 2004, already knowing the work of the vine by heart. Under her direction, the property has evolved and undergone improvement. In 2010, she hired Stéphane Derenoncourt as a consultant in order to obtain the best of her property and terroir.
